To Some of The Boys I’ve Loved Before

via Humphrey Muleba on Unsplash

The biggest sky I’d ever known
Melted gold down on both our houses
Walking gingerly around the pool
Coming to sit by the fire
My heart spit and threw sparks
What a reckless princess
What a brave girl
Childish grin fighting to be seen

-I Told Him I Liked Him As The Sun Set

The eyes
The eyes snatch me up
Leave not a drop of me
To remember sense

-Brown

And perhaps it was the savage I saw
Too much wild in the way
He threw his head back and laughed
But I wanted to run with him anyway
Race together into tomorrow

-Coyote Boy

Why did I waste my glory on you?
You could not hold me
Could not see me
Could not catch me
What adolescent foolishness

-The One I’d Best Forget

And now I’m adrift
Funny isn’t it?
Finally ready
And left exposed

-The Way We’re Trapped

I do not know heartbreak
You dare not introduce us

-A Plea More Than a Demand
